EFSA : « Dietary reference values : iron and copper »

EFSA has derived dietary reference values (DRVs) for iron and copper. The two Scientific Opinions are the latest outputs in the Authority’s on-going work on DRVs :

Iron :
– In men, the PRI is 11 mg/day.
– In premenopausal women, PRI 16 mg/day
– In infants PRI 11 mg/day (7–11 months) ;
– In children 7 mg/day in children aged 1–6 years and 11 mg/day in children aged 7–11 years and boys aged 12–17 years. For girls aged 12–17 years, the PRI is 13 mg/day

Copper :
– For adults, AIs of 1.6 mg/day for men and 1.3 mg/day for women
– For children, AIs are 0.7 mg/day for children aged 1 to < 3 years, 1 mg/day for children aged 3 to < 10 years, and 1.3 and 1.1 mg/day for boys and girls aged 10 to < 18 years, respectively
–  For pregnant women, an increment of 0.2 mg/day.
