Surveillance for Foodborne Disease Outbreaks United States, 2014 : Annual Report

« In United States, during 2014, 864 foodborne disease outbreaks were reported, resulting in 13,246 illnesses, 712 hospitalizations, and 21 deaths.A food was reported for 369 (43%) outbreaks. The categories most commonly implicated were fish (21%), chicken (11%), and dairy (19, 9%) among them unpasteurized products. The most outbreak associated illnesses were from seeded vegetables (16%), chicken 13%), and dairy (10%). Salmonella caused the most outbreak-associated hospitalizations (59%), followed by STEC (62, 9%) and Listeria monocytogenes (51, 8%). »
